Minibeasts and Spring

We have been looking in the world around us for signs of spring and have been talking about signs of new life. We have explored the life cycles of a chick, frog and butterfly and have watched our little tadpoles hatch out from the frog spawn. We also looked at the symmetrical patterns on the wings of butterflies and painted our own!

Georgia O'Keeffe

We have been learning about the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. We looked at her different types of flower paintings. We decided to be artists for the day and form our own flower paintings, using Georgia O’Keeffe’s designs as an inspiration!

We are really enjoying learning about minibeasts and have loved searching for them in our outdoor area. We use our magnifying glasses, as some of the minibeasts were very small! We have been describing what they look like and have talked about their properties. We also painted our favourite minibeasts, paying good attention to detail. We read the story of Joe’s café, although it wasn’t your regular café…. it was a minibeast café! The children then made their own creepy crawly café menus….there was slimly snail soup, ladybird lollipops and beetle burgers to name a few! We have also made minibeast pebbles and have practised our cutting skills by cutting out spiders and ladybirds.
